Vizio Brings Back OTA TV Tuners to Court Cord Cutters

Vizio, in an effort to cut costs, recently removed over-the-air TV turners from their TVs. Vizio had changed the name of their TVs to Home Theater Displays to differentiate themselves from typical TVs with a tuner.

Now Vizio has announced that their new line of TVs will once again include the TV tuner. It seems Vizio has decided with the growth of cord cutting a TV tuner will help them sell TVs. Now these TVs will be the current ATSC 1.0 standard. It seems Vizio is holding off on ATSC 3.0 tuners until more testing is done.

The return of tuners lines up with a recent report that says HDTV antenna sales will grow by 20 to 45% per year over the next few years.

Also with ATSC 3.0 being right around the corner both the TV industry and TV manufacturers are excited for new growth in over-the-air TV.

Would the return of tuners built in to Vizio TVs make you more likely to buy a Vizio TV? Leave a comment and let us know what you think.
