According to Verizon, it will consider how to deliver online TV service over the next six months said CEO Lowell McAdam.
“An over-the-top platform is absolutely critical for us,” McAdam said.
This is a different stance from reports that said Verizon could be ready to release a live TV service as soon as the summer of 2017.
Verizon seems to want to offer live TV as a way to take on AT&T’s DIRECTV NOW service. It also wants to move to take on other companies such as Sling TV, Hulu, and PlayStation Vue.
The question now is will Verizon be too late. Verizon’s CEO said it’s a crowded field but an important part of Verizon’s plans.
So what is Verizon considering? It sounds like it is considering partnering with a current streaming service. Or it could launch its own service but exactly what that will look like—from channel lineup to price—is still up in the air.
