Verizon Plans to Double The Speed of 5G Home Internet

A few months ago Verizon launched 5G in a handful of markets with more on the way in 2019. Currently, subscribers to Verizon’s 5G home internet services get 300 Mbps down. (Or up to 1 Gbps depending on the network.) Now Verizon’s VP of Technology development said they plan to double that in the next 6 months during a speech at the SCWS Americas show.

Currently, Verizon’s is using the 400 MHz range but is looking at exapnding that into the 600 MHz and 800 MHz range to help expand their internet speeds.

We also got a look into how Verizon’s 5G home internet is working. According to Verizon, 50% of their 5G home customers do not subscribe to their mobile phone services. Verizon is also hoping to have 30 million households using 5G at some point in the future.

Currently, Verizon’s 5G home internet service is now live in Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, and Sacramento. The cost will be $50 a month for Verizon Wireless customers and $70 for non-Verizon Wireless customers. The best part is that there is no data cap for Verizon’s 5G home internet service.

Verizon says they plan to continue to roll out 5G to new markets. Verizon is not alone in their efforts as AT&T, T-Mobile, Charter, Google, Dish, and more are all planning to launch their own 5G home internet services.
