Verizon Opens Up its Phone Protection Plan

Verizon Wireless on Wednesday opened enrollment to its “Mobile Protect” plan, which covers you in case you lose or damage your device or it gets stolen.

The program costs $14 to $17 a month, depending on the device and whether you’re part of a larger account. The warranty covers loss, theft, damage (including liquid) and other issues that crop up after the manufacturer’s warranty ends. There’s a $99 damage replacement deductible.

Enrollment begins on February 14 and goes through April 13.

These insurance programs for phones have grown increasingly popular thanks to the ever-increasing price of smartphones. An iPhone 15 Pro, for instance, starts at $999.

Verizon said you’ll have unlimited claims, and there’s no extra cost to repair a cracked screen. The program also includes same-day device delivery and setup. You also get access to tech support via 24/7 Tech Coach.

The maximum device value is $3,000 per occurence.

The company said you need to have a device that’s fully functional and free of damage and defects to enroll.

The open enrollment is for existing customers. New customers who just purchased a phone or brought in an eligible device have 30 days to sign up for the program.
