Now according to Bloomberg, they have learned that Verizon now plans to launch in the Spring of 2018. According to reports, Verizon has shared their plans with TV networks but the timing of the web-based live TV service remains tentative and could be postponed again. Yet credible sources close to the talks say the current goal is Spring 2018.
Verizon is hoping to follow AT&T lead and diversify their business to not rely so heavily on a wireless business that is increasingly becoming more crowded by the day. For months now we have heard that Verizon has looked at everything from buying Comcast or Charter to launching their own live TV streaming service. All in the hopes of diversifying their product lineup.
Verizon already has experience in streaming video online. With their Go90 service becoming a very popular mobile streaming service and their NFL streaming deal they have the experience to make a live TV streaming service work.
The question now is will Verizon be too late to the party as their competitors will have years of experience in the live TV world before Verizon even launches.
