Verizon Acquires Tech from Augmented Reality Start Up Jaunt XR

Jaunt XR made an announcement today, sharing news that Verizon has acquired “software, technology, and certain other assets” from the augmented reality company.

“We are thrilled with Verizon’s acquisition of Jaunt’s technology,” said Mitzi Reaugh, President & CEO of Jaunt XR. “The Jaunt team has built leading-edge software and we are excited for its next chapter with Verizon.”

Jaunt launched in 2013 with a focus on virtual reality technology. The company then went on to create content for VR headsets. Shifting focus again, Jaunt announced in 2018 that it would be concentrating on augmented reality, including “volumetric technology [that] creates compelling content experiences that engage and excite.”

Since then, Jaunt has raised over $100 million from backers, including Disney.

“Jaunt will be assisting Verizon with the transition of select portions of the software and technology for a brief period of time,” the startup said in the announcement Monday morning.

Details of the acquisition haven’t been disclosed.
