New, updated remote controls for Toshiba and Insignia Fire TVs are now available for standalone purchase, giving existing owners a new replacement option to consider. The redesigned remote is compatible with 2018- and 2019-era Toshiba and Insignia Fire TV models, while also bringing some welcome changes to the table.

Of note, the new remote boasts a dedicated channel up/down control, as well as new Settings and Recents buttons. Other controls that were present on earlier models get relocated for 2020, including the Back, Home and Menu buttons, which move down below the directional controls. The volume control moves to one side to make way for the matching channel controls and owners of the previous remote might have to get used to other minor moves as well.

The four hotkeys dedicated to specific streaming services also get a slight revamp, with Hulu now occupying a slot once reserved for Sony’s PlayStation Vue (R.I.P.).

Of course, the new remote will find its way into new Fire TV models this year as well, but current owners now have an updated and, in some ways, upgraded option to consider if they need to replace their current device.
