Updated PlayStation 5 Media Remote Images Show Off Featured Streaming Services

Sony Media Remote

An update to Sony’s product pages showcases some of the first streaming services confirmed for the company’s next-generation PlayStation 5 console. Specifically, images on the Media Remote accessory’s page have been updated with new labels on what had previously been blank hot key buttons.

The four buttons now apparently offer direct access to Disney+, Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube. Of course, plenty more streaming apps are likely to be supported on the next-gen console and its Xbox Series X/S competitors, but these four are getting top billing on Sony’s first-party accessory.

A Twitter account listed as belonging to a senior manager at Disney posted a close-up of the remote, highlighting the “deal” Disney secured for placement on the remote control. However, details of that deal aren’t currently available.

We’ve reported in the past how the speedy storage systems of both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S should enable these high-powered gaming systems to become extremely capable streaming devices as well. And a media remote with direct access to some big-name services, should just make accessing your entertainment that much quicker. The media remote will retail for $29.99 and is expected to launch alongside the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition on Nov. 12.
