Twitter is Shutting Down Their Apps on Roku, Android TV, and Xbox

Sadly today it was announced that Twitter is pulling their apps for Roku, Android TV, and Xbox. This means you will no longer be able to view the free content on Twitter through these devices.

Here is the official tweet from Twitter announcing this move:

Twitter has not said why they are ending support for these devices but keeping Fire TV and Apple TV support. TechCrunch is reporting that it is possible the issue is with the new privacy rules from the EU called GDPR. According to reports Twitter has not been able to update these apps yet to meet the new GDPR rules. If this is true it raises the possibility that Twitter may bring their apps back to Roku, Android TV, and Xbox at some later time. According to reports, this move has nothing to do with the recent Twitter API changes and that again leads many to believe that this is related to the GDPR rules as they take effect on May 25th, 2018.

Twitters live streaming service first became popular by streaming Thursday Night NFL Football. Now Amazon has NFL Football but Twitter has slowly been growing their lineup of shows and sports streaming live on Twitter. Hopefully, Twitter finds a way to bring their apps back to these devices soon.
