Tubi’s Super Bowl Stream Surprised Many Out Performing Fubo, YouTube TV, & Others With Its Delay

Super Bowl LVIII was a thrilling showdown, but for many viewers streaming the game, the excitement was marred by frustrating delays. Reports surfaced of significant lag times between streaming platforms and traditional cable broadcasts, leaving fans feeling out of sync with the action and missing key moments.

Data collected from various sources revealed a consistent delay across popular streaming services:

The biggest surprise here has to be Tubi at just 26 seconds out of all other streaming services, according to this report from Phenix.

These delays, while varying in length, highlight a persistent challenge for streaming platforms in delivering live events with the same immediacy as cable television. The lag can be attributed to several factors, including the time it takes to process and encode the video stream, transmit it over the internet, and then decode it on the viewer’s device.

The streaming industry is continuously working to reduce latency and improve the live viewing experience.
