Tubi CEO Hopeful That AI Can Reduce the Costs in Film & TV Production

Anjali Sud, CEO of Tubi, the popular ad-supported streaming platform, is making waves in the entertainment industry with her bold vision for the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in revolutionizing content creation. In a recent talk at the Banff World Media Festival, Sud expressed her optimism about AI’s potential to not only enhance viewer engagement but also significantly lower the costs of producing movies and television shows, a move that could democratize storytelling and reshape the industry.

Sud’s enthusiasm for AI centers on its ability to streamline the creative process, making it more accessible and efficient for content creators. She envisions a future where AI tools empower filmmakers, writers, and producers to bring their stories to life without the prohibitive budgets that often limit independent creators or smaller studios.

Tubi, which boasts over 97 million monthly active users and a vast library of free content, is already exploring AI to enhance its platform. Initially, Sud sees AI as a tool to improve content discovery, helping viewers find shows and movies tailored to their tastes. By leveraging machine learning algorithms, Tubi can analyze viewing habits and recommend titles that keep audiences engaged, reducing churn and boosting ad revenue.

Looking ahead, Sud is even more excited about AI’s potential to transform the production side of the industry. Suid’s stopped short of listing how Tubi would use AI to reduce costs some day but AI can reduce reliance on expensive resources, such as large production crews, elaborate sets, or costly post-production processes. For instance, AI-driven tools like script tools to help edit and refine, automated editing software, and virtual set design could slash budgets while maintaining high-quality output.

Tubi’s push into AI aligns with its mission to make entertainment accessible to all. By reducing production costs, Sud hopes to amplify diverse voices in storytelling, particularly from underrepresented communities.

As streaming platforms face increasing competition, Tubi’s AI-driven strategy could give it a unique edge. With Sud at the helm, the company is poised to lead the charge in making content creation more affordable and inclusive, potentially redefining how stories are told in the digital age.
