Today Is a Good Day for Cord Cutters as Google Takes on Sling TV

Competition is always a good thing for cord cutters, and yesterday Google made the live TV market a little more crowded.

Live TV streaming has recently grown from just one live TV service, Sling TV, to four, which is unlike traditional pay-TV services where you are lucky to have two or three options.

Now if you want to watch live TV you can choose from Sling TV, DIRECTV NOW, Fubo TV, PlayStation Vue, and now YouTube TV. At some point Hulu and Vidgo will join that list and cord cutters will have 6 or 7 live TV streaming services to pick from.

So why is this good for cord cutters? It allows you to pick a service you want to use not just what happens to be available where you live. It also means the companies will fight with each other for your business, and that often means lower prices and more features for you.

Just last week we saw Sling TV offer a new bundle that cuts the price of many popular packages in half.

Now all we need is more competition in the Internet service provider market. The good news there is that is already in the works: from Google’s new balloon-based Internet to the new 5G Internet services that are starting to roll out this year. Soon you will also have true options when looking for Internet.

As with all things it is possible not all of these services will survive, but the best ones will and competition is not going to go away. Hopefully even more services will jump into the cord cutting market soon.
