TiVo Stream 4K Update Addresses Blank Screens & Ghost CEC

TiVo Stream AppTiVo launched its affordable Android TV dongle, the TiVo Stream 4K at the beginning of May. Now, the company is giving the device an update to address two known issues.

First, the update will address the problem many users were having with the Android TV homescreen being blank. Users haven’t been able to find a way to easily get back to the actual homescreen, other than rebooting the device.

The second issue being resolved with this update deals with the HDMI CEC function. A bug was causing those using this feature to have their device constantly turn the TV on at random times.

On Reddit, a TiVo PM shared the release notes for the update:

Title: TiVo Stream 4k Firmware Version 4734 Update Description: Firmware Version 4734 includes TiVo Stream application 1.0.27 and addresses issues with CEC functionality, HDMI Sync, and black screen when navigating to Android TV Home.

And TiVo sent out an email to customers that included the following information about the two issues that will be fixed with the update:

Black Screen

Some customers were experiencing a black screen when attempting to access the Android Home Screen. This has been resolved, and you now will be quickly able to reach the AndroidTV Home Screen when you press the ”O” button.

Ghost TV

Also referred to as CEC Hijacking, some customers were experiencing the TiVo Stream 4K randomly powering back on a TV or switching HDMI inputs. This has been resolved, and you can re-enable your TV’s CEC if you had previously disabled it.

To get the update, open Settings on the homescreen or give the voice command “Settings” to Google Assistant, then go to Device Preferences > About > System Update.
