Tivo Has a New Cord Cutting DVR in The Works Called The Tivo Edge

Last week we learned that TiVo was working on a new DVR for cable customers. Today ZatzNotFunny.com confirmed thanks to an FCC filing that Tivo also has a new DVR in the works for cord cutters.

The new Tivo Edge is a 4 tuner DVR with 2TB of storage confirmed. (It is very possible that there will be other storage options also.) The Tivo Edge will also be powered by the new Arris MG3 processor and support Dolby Vision. For now, that is we know about these new Tivo Edges DVRs.

Back at CES in January TiVo announced that they are rolling out an app on many popular streaming devices including RokuFire TV, and Apple TV. Soon you will be able to stream content from your TiVo to your favorite streaming devices without the need for a second TiVo device.

This allows TiVo to compete with Tablo, who already offers an option to stream out to multiple services. The main difference will be the fact that you will still have a traditional DVR box plugged into your main TV.

TiVo says this service will be free. No additional fees for streaming your content to other devices. This will go a long way to making the TiVo DVR an even better cord cutting option.

Hopefully, we will learn more about the Tivo Edge and Tivo support for streaming services soon.
