Time Warner Cable Moves to Take on Sling TV & It May Be a Good Deal for Some Cord Cutters…

time_warner_cableTime Warner Cable is hoping to be one more service that will take on Sling TV by offering packages starting at $9.99, but there are some catches. However, these may be good options for some cord cutters…

It looks like TWC is going to join other cable networks, like Charter, and roll out their very basic package as a streaming service. At $9.99 it will have a more reasonable price than some of the other cable companies. So what do you get for $9.99? Although their site does not list every channel because it will depend on where you live, local channels like CBS, Fox, NBC, ABC, TBS, TWC News, and the CW Network seem to all be part of the $9.99 package of 20+ stations. For most people this is not a deal because you can put an antenna up and pick up these stations and many more for free. (I get over 30 stations free with my antenna.) But if you live in an area like I used to last year where there was no OTA signal because we were in a valley, a $9.99 deal for all these stations would have been worth it for my family.

Beyond the $9.99 package it seems like most of the packages are similar to what TWC already offers and may not be a better deal than just getting a DirecTV or TWC standard TV package. Although $9.99 may be a great option for people living outside of OTA coverage for most people even that may not be worth it.
