Time Warner Cable Jumps on The Free TV Bandwagon

Family Watching TV At Night Sitting On Sofa TogetherFree TV with your Internet service is not a new marketing tactic, and Time Warner Cable is jumping on board; however, there is a catch.

Fidelity Cable Networks started this trend a few years back by offering 125 Mbps and free TV for a year as long as you agree to a two-year contract. (Warning: The cost skyrockets in year two of the contract.)

Now it looks like Time Warner Cable has started to jump on the free TV bandwagon. Although we could not find the offer on their site, several readers and a post on Reddit has also confirmed that Time Warner Cable reps are calling Internet-only customers hoping to get them to add basic cable.

We have yet to see the offer in writing, but the reps did confirm that subscribers to this free TV offer will have to pay for the taxes and other fees that come with a standard cable bill. Overall the Time Warner Cable offer does seem to be similar to the Fidelity Cable offer of free TV for a year with the price going up in year two of your contract. Let us also not forget the box rental fees for the DVR you may want.

Always be careful when a company says it’s less expensive to get more services, or they will give you something for free. Make sure you know the length of the contract. Nothing is free; there is always a catch.
