TikTok officially has an app on Amazon Fire TV, but you’ll have to be in Europe to use it. Starting today, Fire TV users in the UK, France, and Germany will be able to access TikTok’s Fire TV app to watch videos and discover new content right from their TV.
While it’s not quite like the mobile version, viewers can watch videos suggested in their “For You” and “Following” feeds in the TikTok app made especially for TVs.
“We’re excited to bring the creativity and joy of TikTok to Amazon’s Fire TV devices in France, Germany and the UK.,” said Rich Waterworth, General Manager, TikTok UK. “TikTok TV app on Fire TV will be a new way for people to come together and enjoy videos from some of our most popular content categories on the big screen. Whether it’s learning a new skill or just having some fun together watching what you love, now more than ever, this is a brilliant way for people to be entertained by their favourite TikTok content together at home.”
This news comes after the app previously launched on Samsung and Android TVs in the same regions.
Crossing over into the TV space puts TikTok in a better position to reach more viewers and expand their audience, however it doesn’t seem to be as user-friendly of an experience using a remote to browse the short videos compared to the touch screen a personal phone provides. The vertical video in the center of a widescreen TV is also less than ideal.
There’s no word on when or if a TikTok app for TV will be coming to the U.S. in the future.
