Apple’s iOS 17 update gave Apple Podcasts a sizable refresh. In addition to changes like full-screen artwork, interactive widgets and search filters with more detailed results, users can now connect other subscriptions to the Podcasts app.
Apple Music, Apple News+, Calm and Lingokids users with in-app subscriptions will find their accounts automatically linked to the Podcasts app. If you’re subscribed to any of these four apps, you’ll have access to 60 original podcasts, including over 2,500 episodes from Apple Music Radio, according to a release from the company.
All of the connected apps’ podcasts and shows will be searchable from the Library tab. New episodes will appear in Up Next on the Listen Now tab.
Next month, Apple plans to expand supported subscriptions to include Bloomberg, Curio, L’Équipe, Mamamia, Sleep Cycle, The Economist, The Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, WELT News, and Zen.
The Podcasts app update makes for a more cohesive listening experience similar to how Apple TV allows users to connect other streaming service subscriptions. Anchoring multiple subscriptions to a hub app can save people from constantly swapping between apps to find content.
For example, if you have an Apple News+ subscription, you’ll be able to access Apple News+ Narrated, which reads articles from News+ to you, from the Podcasts app.
“Apple Music is home to hundreds of original shows featuring the world’s top artists and tastemakers, and our listeners love them,” Rachel Newman, Apple Music’s global head of editorial said in a statement. “There is truly something for everyone.”
Apple released its new operating software along with unveiling the iPhone 15 smartphone lineup, the Apple Watch Series 9 and the Apple Watch Ultra 2 at its “Wanderlust” hardware event earlier this month.
