Thinking of Trying YouTube TV? Don’t Do It Through iTunes…

YouTube TV came out yesterday offering a ton of channels for just $35 a month unless you want to get it through iTunes.

YouTube TV is charging an extra $5 a month to sign up through iTunes. This is likely caused by Apple’s policy of making services such as YouTube give them a cut of sales. So with iTunes you will pay $39.99 a month rather than the typical $35 a month. That may not seem like much, but over a year that adds up to an extra $60.

Now you can avoid this by signing up through your computer or an Android device. From there just use the same YouTube account to login to YouTube TV on iOS.

Remember YouTube TV will charge you taxes on top of whatever price you are paying; however, YouTube TV will show you the taxes before you sign up through its sign up process.

These commissions on other services are how Apple and others make most of their money; however, it also gives Apple an unfair advantage on its platform. Typically when a service agrees to come to iTunes it just pays the fee. This time, though, YouTube decided to just charge more for iOS uses.

Just remember if you want to try YouTube TV sign up through its site not through iTunes.
