These New TVs Will Use Thermal Cameras to Make It Easier for You To Buy Stuff You See in Ads

In the future, you might be able to buy something from a commercial straight through your TV.

Startup company Displace is demoing two unreleased wireless TVs at CES 2024 — the Displace Flex and the Displace Mini — that will incorporate artificial intelligence, advanced thermal cameras, and NFC payment readers “to deliver a seamless shopping experience on TVs.”

On both TVs, customers will be able to use hand gestures to pause whatever they’re watching and Displace’s artificial intelligence will scan the screen for shoppable products. From there, you can drop the item into your shopping cart, and use Displace Payments through the mobile app to complete the purchase. If Displace can’t find the desired product, it’ll search similar items automatically.

“Displace TVs are meant to be used throughout the home. The addition of Displace Flex, Mini, Shopping and Payments allows viewers to find products they might love based on what they watch — and then seamlessly buy them. Displace TVs, Shopping, and Payments will disrupt advertising on TV like digital ads on smartphones, presenting huge opportunities for advertisers and studios while creating value for every Displace viewer,” Displace CEO and founder Balaji Krishnan said in a statement.

Like their predecessor, the DisplaceTV ($4,499), the Flex and Mini have no wires or ports and attach to your wall with “active-loop vacuum technology.”

The Displace Flex is available for $5,999 and the Displace Mini is available for $2,499. Both sets are available for reservation on the company’s website and require a fully refundable deposit. The TVs are expected to ship at the end of 2024.
