There’s Already A Pre-Order Listing For the Nintendo Switch 2 That You Should Definitely Avoid

There’s a lot of speculation surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2, rumored to be released next year, but Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa on Tuesday squashed a bunch of the rumors. Still, that didn’t stop one online Chilean retailer from taking pre-orders for the next-generation console.

Chilean tech site GSMPRO.CL lists the Nintendo Switch 2 for 400,000 Chilean Pesos, or $454, despite the lack of any official announcement. The picture used for the listing appears to be a normal Switch with a Nintendo Switch 2 logo superimposed over it. The listing was spotted by NotebookCheck.

Calling the listing “extremely premature” doesn’t seem to do GSMPRO.CL justice. It’s clear why the site wants to get off to an early start. The internet has long been buzzing about a new console from Nintendo for years. Things heated up after Nintendo applied for a patent for a game device sporting two screens in September. The company also reportedly met with developers behind closed doors to reveal the latest design in August amid reports that the new console would likely debut in the fall of 2024.

People also posted The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was demoed on the Nintendo Switch 2, according to MyNintendoNews, which reportedly featured Nvidia’s LDSS upscaling technology.

But Furukawa confirmed there is nothing to reveal, at least not yet, and downplayed the patent filing.

“We applied for the patent on the understanding that the information would be made public,” said Furukawa. “It does not mean that it will be incorporated in future products as is.”

Still, Nintendo fans are expecting a successor to the Switch console within the next 12 months. Nintendo was not immediately available to comment on whether this is true, but Mainichi quotes Furukawa dispelling rumors as “inaccurate.”
