The YouTube TV Mark as Watched Feature Might Have the Strangest Rollout Yet

youtube tv logoRecently, YouTube TV began rolling out a ‘mark as watched’ feature, and subscribers across the country celebrated. Now, some of that celebration is turning to confusion as YouTube TV subscribers are wondering what’s going on with the rollout.

It’s typical for streaming service updates to roll out to groups of devices in waves. What’s less common is for users with different profiles under the same account to get the update at different times.

That’s exactly what subscribers on Reddit are talking about today. Earlier one reddit user said that he, the owner of the account, doesn’t have the feature yet. His kid, on the other hand, does have the feature on his profile under the same account, using the same device. Commenters were quick to point out that YouTube TV has a history of odd rollouts, with seemingly no rhyme or reason to who gets the update when.

A YouTube engineer commented on another post about the update, saying “We are still rolling this out on ALL mobile (Android and iOS) and desktop (web) platforms. It’s not available to all uses on these platforms.”

If you haven’t already found the ‘mark as watched’ feature on your account, rest assured that it’s coming. Just don’t try to make any sense of when.

On the YouTube TV Help page, this section has now been added with instructions on how to use the feature.

If you want to improve your recommendations and search results, you can also mark TV show episodes as watched. Any episode(s) marked as watched will be automatically added to your watch history.
