The Top 5 Cord Cutting Stories to Watch For in The Second Half of 2019

Cutting the cable connection to coax connector illustrating people cancelling cable TV service2019 is half over but some of the biggest cord cutting stories of the year have yet to happen. Today, we want to look at five cord cutting stories we are watching in the second half of 2019.

#1 New AirTV Devices from Sling TV

Recently, we learned that Sling TV will launch at least two new models: an AirTV 2 that looks like an updated version of the black AirTV box and an AirTV player that is a fully powered Android TV player inside a stick/dongle format.

According to reports, at least one of these new AirTV players is expected to be announced soon.

#2 New Roku TVs & Roku Players

We recently saw new TCL Roku TVs pass through the FCC. TCL also announced that they are working on an 8K Roku TV. Keep an eye out for new Roku TVs in the second half of 2019.

Roku is also likely working on an updated line of Roku players. Roku rolls out new Rokus in the fall. Look for new, more powerful Roku players to hit the market later this year.

#3 YouTube TV & YouTube Kids on Fire TV

YouTube recently returned to some Fire TV models. Now Amazon says by the end of the year YouTube TV and YouTube Kids will also come to the Fire TV.

#4 Pluto TV Worldwide Rollout

Viacom has announced plans to roll out Pluto TV into new markets around the world. We learned Pluto TV is expanding into the EU, and we expect even more markets to launch at any time. Hopefully, this will include Pluto TV launching in Canada—one of the most requested services we hear from our Canadian readers.

#5 New Fire TV Players

Amazon has been rolling out a new Fire TV device almost every year. So far this year we have not seen any new Fire TV products other than a slight update to the Fire TV HD Remote. Keep an eye on the Fire TV Stick because it is the oldest Fire TV on the market. Also look for an updated Fire TV Cube as a real possibility.

Bonus: Disney+

One more story I want to add as a bonus. In November Disney+ is coming out. If you want to learn more about Disney+ you can find our full breakdown HERE.
