The Top 4 Cord Cutting OTA DVRs Are…

We often get asked what is the best DVR for cord cutting. Your antenna is a great way to watch a ton of content, but who wants to wait for it to air for free over the air? Now with an over-the-air TV DVR you can record your programs and watch them when you want to. So, what is the best OTA DVR for cord cutting?

Instead of telling you what we thought, we asked over 2,000 of our readers what they thought. From that survey we came up with this list.

The #1 DVR For Cord Cutting Is the Tablo DVR

The Tablo DVR allows you to stream your antenna to multiple devices and with 7.9 percent of the vote, it was the most popular DVR among our readers. Unlike many DVRs that connect to a single TV, the Tablo streams your antenna to a long list of devices including Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, iOS, and Android.

The #2 DVR For Cord Cutting Is the TiVo DVR

TiVo has long been known as one of the best DVRs on the market. Now they have Tivo DVRs for OTA TV. According to our readers, they are the second most popular DVR with 7.5 percent of our readers using it.

The #3 DVR For Cord Cutting Is the Plex DVR

If you have a home media server, you likely know of Plex. It’s a great way to manage your media, and it’s a great DVR program. Plex is more like software, so you will still need a USB or network tuner and a device to run it on. Plex is a powerful Plex DVR that many cord cutters love.

The #4 DVR For Cord Cutting Is HDHomeRun

The HDHomeRun is a powerful network tuner that lets you stream your antenna to multiple devices. If you have a media server, you can use the HDHomeRun DVR software to record shows and movies.

One Important Note

Whereas 63 percent of cord cutters use an antenna, only 28.8 percent of cord cutters own an OTA DVR. Although an antenna is a great way to get access to a ton of free content, if you don’t have a DVR you are likely missing out on taking full advantage of all the free content available with an antenna.
