The T-Mobile & Sprint Merger Receives a Recommendation of Approval From The FCC Chairman

people looking at phonesA few weeks ago The Department of Justice approved the merger of T-Mobile and Sprint thanks to a deal to sell some assets to Dish including Boost Mobile for $5 billion. The T-Mobile and Sprint merger will be a $26 billion deal to bring the two companies together.

Now the Chairman of the FCC has also given his recommendation of approval for the T-Mobile and Sprint merger.

“After one of the most exhaustive merger reviews in Commission history, the evidence conclusively demonstrates that this transaction will bring fast 5G wireless service to many more Americans and help close the digital divide in rural areas.  Moreover, with the conditions included in this draft Order, the merger will promote robust competition in mobile broadband, put critical mid-band spectrum to use, and bring new competition to the fixed broadband market.” said Chairman Pai.  “I thank our transaction team for the thorough and careful analysis reflected in this draft Order and hope that my colleagues will vote to approve it.”

Now the FCC needs to officially vote to approve the merger but with the Chairman coming out publicly ins support of the merger it will most likely be approved.

The deal is far from done as thirteen state attorneys and the District of Columbia have filed a lawsuit to block the merger on fears that it will lower competition resulting in higher prices.
