Through The Roku Channel, you’ll also have the option to subscribe to premium channels including HBO, Starz, and Showtime. Those subscriptions come with a monthly fee, but once subscribed, you can watch through your Roku Channel app.
The Roku Channel is easy to use for those with a Roku device, but it’s also available on other streaming devices. Just use the web browser available on your device and visit The Roku Channel website to stream.
STIRR launched in January this year, offering on-demand and live linear networks for free with ads. When you visit the website, you’ll start by choosing the location for your local news. If you don’t see a city close to you, STIRR recommends choosing Washington D.C for news from the capital.

STIRR has been growing quickly since launching at the beginning of the year. In July, the free, ad-supported streaming service turned six months old and hit a major milestone of 1 million downloads. Recently STIRR teamed up with LiveXLive to stream 12 upcoming live music events. We’ll also soon see a new branded linear 24/7 channel, expected to begin streaming on STIRR in the first half of 2020.

Which Should You Choose?
Both of these free streaming services have a good collection of on-demand content, along with live channels offering news, sports, and entertainment. With no subscriptions and no cost, there’s no reason not to give both of these a try.
