The Roku Channel is Now Roku’s Most Popular Free Streaming Channel

the roku channel home screen on tvOne of the fastest growing areas in cord cutting is free ad-supported movies and TV shows. According to Roku’s list of most popular Roku Channels, The Roku Channel is now their most popular free channel that offers movies and TV shows.

Note: YouTube is still the largest free streaming channel, but when looking at apps dedicated to movies and TV shows The Roku Channel is the largest.

It’s now beat out Pluto TV, Tubi, Crackle, Stirr and other great free movie and TV services even though it’s one of the newest options out there.

According to Roku, here are their top free movie and TV shows channels by popularity:

Honorable mentions include Amazon with IMDb TV built in and Vudu. Unfortunately, Roku does not separate free vs paid channels into categories for this list.

The Roku Channel’s growth on Roku players and Roku TVs should not likely surprise anyone. Roku has heavily been promoting the channel in its ads and featured free section. Yet seeing it at the top of the list so quickly was a bit of a surprise since unlike with Amazon’s IMDb TV services, Roku is not preinstalling it on all Roku Players and Roku TVs.

One of The Roku Channel’s main selling points has been its push to keep ads low. Roku has one of the lowest ad loads of any free ad-supported streaming services. This seems to be striking a chord with fans of free movies and TV shows.
