Cord Cutters News

The NHL is Prepared to Stream In Market Games if Bally Sports & AT&T SportsNet Go Under

Earlier today, we learned that AT&T Sports failed to make full payment to MLB teams. This raised questions about their future just as Bally Sports missed a major interest payment that will reportedly start the clock on its bankruptcy.

Now NHL has released a statement that says “the NHL is closely monitoring the RSN situation. We will be prepared to address whatever circumstances dictate to provide our fans with access to our games.”

According to reports, if RSNs are unable to air NHL games, the NHL will follow in MLBs plan to offer in-market streaming through the NHL’s out-of-market streaming service.

For years RSNs had been seen as a safe bet now, with how fast cord cutting is growing RSNs seem to be in grave danger.

The question now is what will happen. Will AT&T SportsNet and MLB work out a deal, or will this be the start of AT&T SportsNet shutting down or selling? The question is, who would want to buy a RSN right now?

Also, will Bally Sports be able to work out a deal with its creditors, or will MLB, NBA, and NHL take back their rights? For now, only time will tell.
