The NextGen TV ATSC 3.0 OTA TV ZapperBox Announces DRM Support Coming in September

Image of a zapper box and a TV.

Been wanting to take advantage of all the new features that ATSC 3.0 NextGen TV has to offer? Need DRM support? Good news finally, we have a timeline for DRM support on a runner. 4K TV, improved sound, better weather alerts, and a ton of other features are coming with the NextGen TV ATSC 3.0 free over-the-air TV. Sadly though, many are blocked out of the NextGen TV because of Digital Rights Management or DRM is blocked on all external runners. Now the Zapperbox may be the first tuner to support DRM.

Here is what was announced for the DRM support being added to the ZapperBox M1:

v2.2 Support for Secure Content aka Encrypted Channels aka DRM (September)

  • Cautions:
       * This first release of content security support will require an Internet connection.
       * Support for “unconnected mode” will accompany a future update
       * This release will not support recording and playback of secure content. That will come with a future update.
       * This release will require an OS update that takes 5-7 minutes to install.

This news comes as the ZapperBox has recently been updated to add a built-in DVR if you add some external storage. This makes it one of the few DVR options of ATSC 3.0 NextGen TV.

The only downside is you will need to pay for the 14-day guide data.

You can find the ZapperBox on Amazon HERE.
