‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3 is Already in Pre-Production

The Mandalorian Bounty Hunter

On Tuesday, Variety broke the exclusive story that Disney+ has already started production on season three of The Mandalorian. Sources say producers began writing scripts some time ago, and the art department at Lucasfilm began creating concepts for season 3 a few weeks ago now.

“We’ve just started pre-production and are looking into further adventures for the Mandalorian in Season 3,” revealed one source.

According to Variety, the production design department for the Star Wars series began working on the new season just a few days ago on April 20. The department requires a huge lead time to get everything completed in time for a season 3 launch. While there’s no set date for when that will be, season one debuted in fall 2019 and season 2 is slated for October of this year. So a launch date of October or November 2021 for season 3 sounds plausible.

Production crews around the globe have been facing the challenges of shutdowns due to the coronavirus outbreak, with some resorting to working from home as much as they can. Disney+ even released an entire short series produced solely from home. Luckily, season 2 of The Mandalorian managed to finish production early last month before strict shelter in place orders shut down studios, delaying other releases. As of now, the season 2 October 2020 launch date seems to be staying intact.

Disney is staying pretty tight-lipped about storylines with little known about season 2. We’ll keep giving updates on any new developments about the series.
