The HDHomeRun App Returns to The Fire TV App Store

Today the HDHomeRun app returned to the Fire TV’s app store after it was removed about a month ago by Amazon. This was first spotted by AFTVnews and comes a few days after SiliconDust announced that they are shutting down their HDHomeRun Premium TV services.

This all comes after the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) filed a lawsuit saying Omniverse the company HDHomeRun Premium TV uses to access channels like ESPN and Disney did not have the rights to this content. ACE’s members include AMC, CBS, HBO, NBCUniversal, Fox, Disney, and many others with the goal of protecting their works. Omniverse maintains that they have the right to this content. Amazon responded by removing all Omniverse powered apps from their app store.

SiliconDust’s CEO Theodore Head sent Cord Cutters News the following statement about HDHomeRun Premium TV shutting down. “Silicondust has carefully considered our OTT offerings and have chosen to discontinue our service named Premium TV. We continue to support our existing and future customers with our Live TV and DVR products including upcoming models.  Stay tuned for more information.”
