The Free Local ABC, CBS, FOX & NBC News Service VUit to Cease Operations, Merges with Zeam

Syncbak, the parent company of VUit, has announced that its popular streaming service, which provides free access to local news broadcasts across the United States, will cease operations as a standalone platform on July 4, 2025. VUit will officially merge with Zeam, a newer, more robust streaming platform designed to enhance the local news experience for viewers nationwide. This transition marks a significant shift in the streaming landscape, as Zeam aims to build on VUit’s success with an upgraded user experience and expanded content offerings.

VUit, launched in 2020, quickly gained traction among cord-cutters and local news enthusiasts by offering live and on-demand broadcasts from over 300 local television stations across 45 states. The platform, backed by Gray Television, Morgan Murphy Media, and the National Association of Broadcasters, provided a unique service by aggregating local news, sports, and cultural programming, making it accessible to viewers regardless of their geographic location. According to Syncbak, VUit was profitable, with some stations generating over $100,000 monthly in streaming revenue, and the average viewer tuned in 29 times a month.

However, Syncbak is now focusing its efforts on Zeam, which launched in February 2024 as a next-generation platform to replace VUit. Zeam, also supported by major industry players like Gray Television and CBS Stations, offers programming from approximately 300 local stations, covering 80% of the U.S. market. The platform provides live and on-demand content, including news, sports, and lifestyle programming, and has been praised for its user-friendly interface and enhanced advertising capabilities. Zeam’s technology prioritizes local content, ensuring higher-paying ads and a more tailored viewer experience.

The merger has sparked excitement among industry observers, who see Zeam as a forward-thinking solution to the growing demand for localized streaming content. Zeam’s marketing efforts, including a Times Square studio and a mobile streaming channel called Zeam 360, have already garnered attention. As the streaming landscape evolves, Zeam is poised to lead the charge in delivering high-quality local content to a national audience.

Viewers are encouraged to visit the Zeam website or download the app to continue enjoying their favorite local broadcasts seamlessly after the July 4 transition.
