The CW is Laying Off More Staff as Cord Cutting Grows

More changes are coming to The CW as Nexstar works to make the network its own. Today Deadline reported that a new round of layoffs has hit the network, with more than 15 staff members getting cut.

This time the layoffs came from the mid and high-level executives in the areas of marketing and promotions teams getting cuts along with finance.

This is the second major round of layoffs to hit the CW since Nexstar became the majority owner in October 2022. In November 2022, Nexstar cut 30 to 40 staffers as part of their restructuring.

This all comes as Nexstar has announced plans to make the network profitable by 2025. Part of its plans is to move away from younger scripted dramas to focus more on news, sports, and reality TV.

Recently The CW struck a deal with LIV Golf to air on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Nexstar has said they are exploring other options to add more live sports to The CW.

With the sale to Nexstar, the future of The CW is still unknown. Many scripted dramas have been cut, and some high-profile reboots like the planned Babylon 5 reboot haven’t been canceled officially, but their future is unknown.
