The Classic 1934 ‘Woody Woodpecker’ is Coming to OTA MeTV Next Month

MeTV is adding some new content from an old feathered friend. Starting September 2, Woody Woodpecker and his pals will debut on the network’s Saturday Morning Cartoons lineup.

MeTV acquired the rights to over 360 Woody Woodpecker and Friends animated shorts. The series features a rambunctious woodpecker named Woody and his friend, Chilly Willy, The Beary Family, Inspector Willoughby, Any Panda, and more.

Woody Woodpecker adds a dash of nostalgia for longtime fans. The show ran from 1934 to 1972 and acquired a dedicated following. Merchandise is still available in stores like Walmart and Target and online retailers like Amazon and Etsy. You can also add the mischievous bird to your Funko Pop collection.

MeTV’s collection holds Woody’s debut animated appearance, “Knock Knock,” as well as “The Beach Nut,” “Wet Blanket Policy,” and “The Barber of Seville,” which introduced Woody’s classic opening routine. In 1943, “The Dizzy Acrobat” episode was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Short Subject in a cartoon. Check out YouTube for a short teaser trailer.

Saturday Morning Cartoons on MeTV is a three-hour block of “all cartoons, all the time.” Along with Woody, the lineup includes Popeye and Pals, Tom & Jerry, and Bugs Bunny & Friends.

The full Saturday schedule, as provided by MeTV, reads:

MeTV also secured four animated shorts by Tex Avery, a famous director, writer, and producer for cartoons during the “golden age” of U.S. animation: “I’m Cold,” “Crazy Mixed Up Pup,” “The Legend of Rockabye Point,” and “Sh-h-h-h-h.”

MeTV is available on broadcast OTA television across 98% of the U.S. and through select cable and satellite providers. The channel also streams on Frndly TV and Philo. Visit MeTV to see where it’s available in your area and see everything the network has to offer.
