The CHSN RSN Shuts Down Its Free Over-the-Air Broadcasts in Several Markets After Comcast Deal, Shifts Focus to Streaming and Pay-TV

The Chicago Sports Network (CHSN), a regional sports network that brought Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bulls, and Chicago Blackhawks games to fans free over-the-air (OTA) via antenna, announced today it will cease OTA broadcasts in several key markets effective Monday, June 9, 2025, following a new distribution agreement with Comcast. The move marks a significant shift for the network, which launched in October 2024 as a joint venture between the three teams and Standard Media Group.

The decision to sunset OTA channels in certain markets comes as CHSN prioritizes its direct-to-consumer (DTC) streaming platform and expanded pay-TV distribution. The affected markets include Chicago, IL; Champaign-Springfield, IL; South Bend, IN; Davenport, IA; Fort Wayne, IN; Peoria, IL; Rockford, IL; and Quincy, IL. Meanwhile, OTA broadcasts will continue in Indianapolis, IN; Milwaukee, WI; Grand Rapids, MI; Des Moines, IA; Paducah/Cape Girardeau/Harrisburg, IL; Cedar Rapids, IA; and Sioux City, IA.

For fans in markets losing OTA access, CHSN is directing viewers to its DTC streaming service, available at CHSN.com or through mobile and connected TV apps on iOS, Android, Roku, Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Samsung TV. Subscription plans start at $19.99 per month for access to one team’s games or $29.99 per month for all three teams’ content, with no long-term commitment required. Additionally, CHSN games and programming will be available through pay-TV services, including Comcast Xfinity, DIRECTV, AT&T U-Verse, Fubo, and RCN/Astound.

CHSN is addressing viewer concerns with a dedicated support system. Fans can email otasupport@chsn.com for assistance, and a live support line will be available starting June 9 to help navigate the transition. The network emphasized that its streaming and pay-TV options will provide comprehensive coverage, including pre- and post-game shows, exclusive content, and multi-platform accessibility.

The Comcast deal underscores CHSN’s shift toward broader distribution, aligning with industry trends favoring streaming and cable over traditional OTA broadcasts. While the change may disappoint some antenna-reliant fans, CHSN’s expanded platform availability aims to keep Chicago sports accessible to a wide audience.
