Catchy Comedy Network is celebrating the life and career of legendary actor John Amos with a special lineup of tribute episodes from his iconic role in Good Times. The tribute kicks off Wednesday, October 2nd at 6 PM ET | 3 PM PT, and continues through Thursday and Friday at the same time. Fans of the classic sitcom will get a chance to relive some of the most memorable episodes featuring Amos as James Evans Sr., the strong, no-nonsense father of the Evans family.

A Legend of Television and Film
Born in New Jersey in 1939, John Amos led a fascinating life before his acting career took off. He worked as an advertising copywriter, a social worker, and even played semi-professional football before finding his true calling on stage. Amos made his stage debut in 1971 with Norman, Is That You?, earning a Los Angeles Drama Critics nomination for Best Actor. He then transitioned to Broadway in Tough To Get Help and began gaining recognition on TV, particularly for his roles in The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Maude.
But it was in 1974 that Amos became a household name with his portrayal of James Evans Sr. on Good Times, a role that showcased his ability to balance strength and compassion as a father struggling to make ends meet in a Chicago housing project. His commanding presence and unforgettable performances continued in roles like Roots (1977), Coming to America (1988), and The Beastmaster (1982). Throughout his career, Amos remained dedicated to portraying characters that resonated deeply with audiences.
His incredible body of work earned him numerous accolades, including the NAACP Award for Best Actor in 1985 for his performance in the play Split Second. Amos passed away at the age of 84, leaving behind an impressive legacy and a lasting impact on television and film. He is survived by his children, K.C. and Shannon, and his grandchild, Quiera Williams.
