The Cable Company Altice Completes its Purchase of The Cord Cutting Service Cheddar

Cheddar has promoted itself as “the leading post-cable news, media, and entertainment company.” Back in May 2019, it was announced that Cheddar was going to be purchased by the cable company Altice for $200 million. Yesterday that sale was completed with Altice now owning Cheddar.

“Cheddar has demonstrated an innovative approach to live news while building an engaged audience, solid followership and a strong brand,” Altice USA CEO Dexter Goei said in announcing the deal. “As one of Cheddar’s early investors, we have enjoyed our partnership with Jon and admire the entrepreneurial spirit, energy and smart disruptive mentality that he brings to the news business.”

Cheddar has two main news network Cheddar focusing on the world of business and stocks and Cheddar Big News that is more focused on a more board news focus.

Cheddar offers both a free version and a paid premium version. Cheddar is also on most streaming services including Sling TV, YouTube TV, PlayStation Vue, Hulu, and more. For now none of this is expected to change as Cheddar leadership will remain with Cheddar founder and CEO Jon Steinberg who will now run Altice News.
