OpenVault also reported that the average amount of data used increased by 27.3% in 2019 to 344 gigabytes of data for the average American household. This increase is large but still well below the average data cap of 1 TB. The report did say that users who went over 1 terabyte of data did grow by 60% in 2019 over 2018.
Increasingly faster Internet options have been rolling out across the United States. From 5G to fiber, these new, faster Internet options are putting pressure on DSL and cable Internet providers to offer faster Internet. As this trend continues look for home Internet rates to slowly increase.
The question now is how quickly will the home Internet version of 5G and fiber rollout. Also, when will Amazon and SpaceX’s home Internet providers go nationwide? When that happens look for home Internet speeds to skyrocket.
