The Apple TV App is Now on Roku & The Fire TV: So Which Is the Better Version?

Fire Tv Apple TV RokuYesterday the Apple TV app was finally released on the Fire TV. Now cord cutters can use the Apple TV app on Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, and some smart TVs.

The Apple TV app will let you watch all the movies and TV shows you purchased from iTunes. The Apple TV app will also let you access services like CBS All Access that you subscribed to through iTunes.

This has raised the question of what version of the Apple TV app is the best? So, what is the difference between the Apple TV app on the Fire TV and Roku? Let’s take a look…

The app on Roku and the app on the Fire TV are similar. The graphics are almost exactly the same and both work very well as you would expect from Apple.

The one big difference is with Roku you are able to buy movies and TV shows inside the Apple TV app. You can only view content you paid for through iTunes with the Fire TV Apple TV app.

This limitation is extremely similar to the limitations that the Amazon Prime Video app has on the Apple TV. You can only view content on the Apple TV app. You cannot purchase any content.

Beyond that, you shouldn’t find any differences between the two apps. This shows how the days of picking a streaming player based on the apps is increasingly coming to an end. Now, most streaming players offer all the apps you want.
