Amazon sign

amazon buildingBad news for Amazon Prime Video fans today, Apple removed the app from the app store for iPads, iPhones, and the Apple TV. The appleinsider first spotted this, but so far Amazon and Apple have not commented as to why the app has been removed.

Update: Amazon has confirmed that this was removed for a technical issue. Amazon hopes to have Amazon Prime Video readded shortly.

Update #2 Amazon sent Cord Cutters News the following statement. “Earlier today, there was a technical glitch that impacted the Prime Video app on iOS and tvOS devices. The issue has been resolved, and the Prime Video app is now once again available in the App Store.”

Sadly this means that if you don’t have the app installed, you won’t be able to install it on new devices. This news comes a day after Amazon updated the app to add the X-ray viewing feature it seems unlikely Amazon pulled the app. Apple does have a history of pulling apps when a glitch is found until it is fixed. It is possible that yesterday’s update caused some type of issue that forced Apple to remove the app.

If you have the app installed, you are all set, but make sure to not remove it as of right now you will not be able to re-add the Amazon Prime Video app to your Apple TV or iPhone.

This is breaking news more coming soon. Cord Cutters News is reaching out for comment and will update our story as we learn more.
