Roku 1 vs Roku 3 and Roku 4 – User Experience Test

Many people have asked whether the Roku 3 or the Roku 4 are worth the extra expense when compared to the Roku 1.

We could talk about the specs of the Roku 3 over the Roku 1, but what most people want to know is “when I get it home how will it work for us?” So let’s take a look at the end-user experience and how it will work for you.

Pros for the Roku 3 and Roku 4

The Roku 3 and 4 are both faster than the Roku 1 and will play video files from a USB—something the Roku 1 cannot do. The Roku 3 and 4 also have a micro SD slot that allows you to expand the internal memory, enabling you to install more channels without having to reload content.

Pros for the Roku 1

If you have an older TV, the Roku 1 is what you want. The Roku 1 has the RCA (red, white, and yellow connectors) that will allow you to connect to a TV that does not have an HDMI port. The Roku 1 is also half the price of the Roku 3 and 4.

So what should you buy?

If you have an older TV without an HDMI port, the Roku 1 is for you. However, if you have a TV with an HDMI port and you plan to make the Roku your main source for entertainment we recommend the Roku 3 or 4.

The Roku 3 and 4 will last longer as more powerful newer channels come out needing the power of the Roku 3 or 4. Also if you plan to use your Roku as your main method of getting content the Roku 3 and 4 will allow you to have a smoother, quicker experience.
