‘Tenet’ Will be Available to Stream in December

WarnerBros Pictures has announced its would-be blockbuster film Tenet is being released on digital and DVD on Dec.15. The Christopher Nolan sci-fi epic finally made it to theaters Sept. 3 after multiple delays on the release due to Covid 19.

The film will be available in hard copy form ranging from $29 to $45 on DVD, Blu-Ray and a 4K UHD combo pack. So far, there’s no word about which streaming service the film will land at, although some speculations point to the WarnerMedia-owned HBO Max as a possibility.

Tenet had a less than exciting box office release since many theaters were still closed at the time and viewers weren’t quite ready to step back into theaters during the pandemic. The film had a budget of $200 million and only grossed $53.8 million in the US and $350 million worldwide. Although lower than anticipated, director Christopher Nolan seems satisfied with the performance.

“Warner Bros. released ‘Tenet,’ and I’m thrilled that it has made almost $350 million,” Nolan said. But pointed out that the film industry needs to be adapting to the current world situation.

“I am worried that the studios are drawing the wrong conclusions from our release — that rather than looking at where the film has worked well and how that can provide them with much needed revenue, they’re looking at where it hasn’t lived up to pre-COVID expectations and will start using that as an excuse to make exhibition take all the losses from the pandemic instead of getting in the game and adapting — or rebuilding our business, in other words,” Nolan said.
