Tablo Is the Most Popular Cord Cutting DVR

DVRs are a great way to take full advantage of your antenna by accessing all the free content available over the air when and how you want it. We often get asked what is the best DVR for cord cutters, and we decided to ask our readers that question.

Last week we asked over 3,000 of our readers a long list of cord cutting questions. One of the questions was what DVR do you use for your antenna. Tablo DVRs were the most popular DVRs with our readers for the second year in a row.

Here is the breakdown of the top 7 DVRs for cord cutters:

  1. Tablo
  2. TiVo
  3. Plex
  4. HDHomeRun
  5. Fire TV Recast
  6. Channel Master
  7. AirTV

What was maybe most interesting was the fact that the newest DVR on this list is already at #5. Amazon’s Fire TV Recast DVR for your antenna launched in late 2018. It has seen strong growth and is now the fifth most popular DVR with cord cutters.

Tablo DVRs have been working hard to be the #1 DVR. Recently they added built-in automatic commercial skipping. Tablo has also rolled out a new four-tuner DVR with the option to add an internal hard drive.

What was maybe most surprising was the fact that most antenna users do not use a DVR with their antenna. Most cord cutters seem happy to watch it live or not at all. This likely points to how a growing number of cord cutters see live TV as something for live events, sports, and news. Beyond that many cord cutters seem to want their programs on-demand.
