T-Mobile TV’s New Streaming Player Just Cleared The FCC

Beautiful fashion girl learning on line with a tablet and headphones sitting on a bench in the streetThis week a new streaming player from T-Mobile cleared the FCC according to a new filing on the FCC website. The new box carries the T-Mobile logo and is called T-Mobile Mini. Yet the device is still labeled at the FCC as a Layer3 TV device. (T-Mobile recently purchased Layer3 TV.)

According to reports, this new player has 802.11ac WiFi with Bluetooth LE. According to the paperwork the device will have Ethernet and a USB port for manual update.

From looking at all the information out there, it looks like T-Mobile plans to rebrand Layer3 TV into T-Mobile TV. This lines up with what we heard recently that a version of T-Mobile TV would launch in 2018 but be limited to your home. The more cord cutting friendly mobile version of T-Mobile TV won’t launch until sometime in 2019 according to T-Mobile. With that said this new player does not have a Coax input pointing to the fact that this will be as expected a streaming-only device.

For now, we will have to wait and see what T-Mobile does next but it looks like the first launch of T-Mobile TV will only be the first step as they work to launch a more mobile version of T-Mobile TV.
