T-Mobile Takes First Place Overall in Speed Tests

T-Mobile announces the “UnCarrier” has outperformed its competitors in an overall 5G performance test run by Ookla, a company providing network intelligence and connectivity insights.

“The network we’ve built stands as a testament to T-Mobile’s unwavering dedication to our goal of providing customers with the best experience possible,” said Ulf Ewaldsson, President of Technology at T-Mobile. “And once again, the reports from Ookla continue to prove exactly that.”

The Speedtest Global Index Market Analysis United States Q2 2023 report shows T-Mobile placed first as the fastest mobile network with median download speeds over two times faster than Verizon and AT&T. T-Mobile has download speeds of 164.76 Mbps – down a bit from 165.22 reported in the first quarter of 2023 – compared to Verizon’s download speeds of 72.61 Mbps. AT&T ranked third place with download speeds of 66.16 Mbps.

Upload speeds showed T-Mobile clocking in at 12.16 Mbps, well above Verizon’s upload speed of 9.11 Mbps and AT&T’s 7.32 Mbps. T-Mobile also has the lowest multi-server latency at 54 ms along with the most consistent network speeds. T-Mobile ranked first with 86.1% network consistency, followed by Verizon at 81.5% and AT&T at 79.2%. 

Ookla also ranked T-Mobile as having the best mobile video experience overall.

Focusing on 5G performance, T-Mobile has the fastest by far at 220 Mbps with median download speeds rivaling fixed broadband. Verizon came in second at 133.5 Mbps, followed by AT&T with 86.01 Mbps. In 87 of the most populated cities across 44 states, T-Mobile offered the fastest, most reliable connection out of any network.

T-Mobile also beats out Verizon and AT&T in terms of customers, boasting coverage to over 326 million U.S. households. The network’s Ultra Capacity 5G covers 275 million people and T-Mobile has plans to expand coverage to 300 million throughout the end of this year.
