T-Mobile Launches a New Website Promoting 5G Home Internet & The Merger with Sprint

T-Mobile has been pushing the idea that their merger with Sprint will allow them to offer 5G as a cheaper and faster home Internet option compared to cable TV. Now T-Mobile has launched a website to promote both their 5G home Internet and the proposed Sprint merger.

In a statement on their website T-Mobile said, “It is absolutely imperative that the U.S. extends the global innovation, technology and economic leadership it seized during the 4G era. It is easy to forget now, but the 4G revolution unleashed innovation that led to the modern economy we interact with every day. Lyft, Uber, Snapchat, Tinder, Venmo, Square, Instagram…these are companies that simply do not exist without 4G. But 4G didn’t just create a herd of unicorns. Global leaders such as Facebook, Alphabet, Amazon, and Netflix adapted their businesses and their growth exploded!”

What is 5G Internet?

The easiest way to explain 5G is that 5G is fiber Internet without the need to run a wire to your house. Fiber Internet is great, but it’s a slow and expensive process to roll out nationwide. Now, 5G Internet offers the same speed but can be rolled out in a fraction of the time of traditional fiber.

The idea is to upgrade existing cellphone towers with the new 5G system. Many say the first towns may see 5G go live sometime in 2018, but most are saying 2020 is the goal to get about half of the United States covered with 5G by at least one provider.
