The company sent out press releases for each city’s launch, with each getting into the details of what this initial 5G rollout entails. The rollout uses the 600 MHz portion of the spectrum, aka low-band spectrum. Customers in these areas should expect downloads speeds about 20-percent faster than T-Mobile’s LTE network, and the company promises more speed improvements, especially if the pending Sprint merger closes and they can add capacity via the mid and high-band spectrum.
“We’ve been building toward this day for a really long time. Professionally it’s incredibly rewarding to bring the community a technology that has the potential to close the Digital Divide and level the playing field for rural America,” Chad Simmons, T-Mobile network engineer, said in the press release.
The Twin Falls upgrade also includes much of the surrounding area, including Buhl to Wendell, and Jerome to Milner. Meanwhile, residents in the greater Jackson area, including Oakfield, Huntersville, and Pinson, should also benefit from the new network.

Naturally, you’ll need a 5G-capable phone to truly take advantage of these new speed gains, and the company has a few currently available, including the new Samsung Galaxy S20 family, as well as the OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren and the Samsung Galaxy Note10+ 5G. It’s an emerging technology, of course, so we can expect more devices, and more cities, to support the standard in the near future.
