T-Mobile Is Reportedly in Talks to Buy a Major Internet Service Provider

For some time now there have been reports that T-Mobile was looking at buying fiber internet companies to expand its fiber footprint. Now, according to TMT Finance, T-Mobile and some investment partners are looking at buying Metronet.

Metronet offers fiber internet service across 17 states and reportedly has more than two million customers as of 2024. This would give T-Mobile a huge boost to its fiber internet service as it slowly looks to grow not just its 5G home internet service but also its fiber home internet service that is currently only in a handful of markets.

Metronet is based in Indiana and offers service in California, Texas, Colorado, Florida, and New York to name a few states.

The deal is still not official and, like past attempts by T-Mobile to buy fiber internet companies, could fall apart. For now, we will have to see what happens.

T-Mobile has home internet as a major part of its future. Its 5G home internet service is one of the fastest growing home internet services in the United States. By buying a fiber internet company, it could quickly expand its footprint of fiber across the United States.
