The Verge has reportedly obtained internal T-Mobile documents from 2015 that show T-Mobile is looking into merging with a cable company and Comcast is a top contender for that merger.
The documents go back to 2015 and look at T-Mobile’s plans to merge with Sprint and what to do next. According to these documents, T-Mobile hopes to close its merger with Sprint and from there move on to a bigger merger with a cable TV company like Comcast. Even though the documents are a few years old, T-Mobile seems to be following it as the Sprint merger described in the documents is very similar to what happened. even if it took longer than expected.
Now it looks like T-Mobile’s post-Sprint merger (assuming it happens as right now they still need to win their court case) plans will be to prepare for a merger and Comcast is repeatedly talked about in the documents.
One of the ways T-Mobile wants to prepare for the merger is to “bring video content onto mobile” this sounds a lot like T-Mobile’s new free service and it plans to launch a live TV streaming service called T-Mobile TV.
With Comcast moving heavily into wireless phone service, you can understand why T-Mobile is targeting Comcast. Now, the question is, will a merger like this happen? A lot has to go right to get this deal approved and the first step is getting the Sprint merger completed helping T-Mobile look more attractive to Comcast.
It is important to remember that these are older documents and plans do change.
