Survey: Most Cord Cutters Looking Plan to Buy a Roku Streaming Player

Recently Cord Cutters News conducted our Spring 2018 Survey and more than 2,500 of our readers took the time to let us know what they think on many cord cutting topics.

One of the questions we asked our readers was if they plan to buy a streaming player this year what company would they buy from. Of the readers who said they plan to buy a streaming player, Roku was the favorite company by more than 2 to 1.

According to the survey, 18% of our readers plan to buy a new Roku streaming player this year; 6.3% plan to buy an Apple TV; 5.4% plan to buy a Fire TV; 2.5% plan to buy an Nvidia Shield; and 2.1% said they plan to buy some other player. (65.6% said they did not plan to buy a new streaming player this year.)

These numbers line up with the 70.4% of our readers who already said they own and use a Roku streaming player.

While many readers have said that Roku players may not be the most attractive devices, it seems the super-simple easy-to-use design Roku offers is paying off. In recent years Roku has also been pushing hard to update the look and feel from new remotes to forcing older Roku Channels to update their apps.

Now the question is can Roku keep this lead or will Amazon and Apple catch up to Roku.
